We Have a Teacher

1 John 2:26–27

I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.
1 John 2:26–27

God has not left us alone. The Holy Spirit lives within His people. When John says they have “no need that anyone should teach” them, he clearly does not mean Christians never need pastors, teachers, or Bible study. John is teaching them as he writes. His point is that believers do not need a spiritual elite to unlock secret knowledge about God.

We already have the Spirit of Truth. The Spirit takes the Word of God and continually directs us toward the Son of God. He does not lead us away from Jesus. He leads us deeper into Jesus. That gives us a helpful test for spiritual teaching.

Does it agree with Scripture?
Does it exalt Christ?
Does it lead toward holiness?
Does it produce love?
Does it encourage us to remain in Jesus?

Not every confident voice speaks truth. Not every spiritual claim comes from God. But we do not need to live in fear of deception. We have God’s Word. We have God’s Spirit. And both continually point us toward God’s Son. The Spirit of God will never lead us away from the truth God has already revealed.

Holy Spirit, guide us into truth. Give us wisdom to recognize false teaching and humility to receive what is true. Keep directing our hearts toward Jesus and teach us to remain faithfully in Him.

Remaining in the Truth,

eep
