And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
2 Peter 3:15–16
Truth can be handled well or poorly. Peter warns that instability leads to distortion. When the heart is not anchored, truth can be reshaped to fit desire rather than being received as it is.
That is why maturity matters, not for pride, but for protection. Stability in Christ keeps us from bending truth to our preferences. It allows us to receive it, even when it challenges us. And again, this is not just about others; it is about us. We are all capable of selectively hearing, of emphasizing what we like and avoiding what we don’t.
We are led back to humility again. We must let Scripture speak. We must allow God’s Word to shape us rather than reshaping and reinterpreting it to fit our desires and perspectives.
Lord, we confess that we can be unstable in our hearts and selective in how we receive Your truth. Thank You for a Word that is steady even when we are not. Anchor us more deeply in You so that we receive truth with humility and faithfulness. We surrender our tendency to reshape truth and ask You to reshape us instead.
