They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”

If Jesus is coming back, why has it taken so long? If God is going to act, why does the world still look the way it does? If His promises are true, why does waiting feel so stretched?
Peter understands the questions, and he knows they can arise from two very different places. They can come from rebellion, from scoffing, from a desire to dismiss the promise altogether. But these questions can also echo quietly in the hearts of sincere believers who are tired, burdened, and wondering why the fulfillment still feels far away.
The answer is not that the promise has weakened. The answer is that waiting is part of faith. Delay is not denial. Slowness is not absence. Silence is not failure. God is not less faithful because His timing does not match our urgency.
We ask similar questions in smaller ways. Where is the promise of help, of healing, of justice, of restoration? Why has this prayer taken so long? Why has this burden remained so heavy? Peter does not mock those longings, but he redirects them. The promise still stands.
Lord, we confess that waiting often makes us weary and that unanswered questions can slowly wear down our confidence. Thank You that Your promises do not weaken with time. Strengthen our hearts to wait with trust and to hold fast even when fulfillment feels delayed. We place our timelines in Your hands and choose to rest in Your faithfulness.
