But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2 Peter 3:8
Peter is not giving us a formula here. He is giving us perspective. God does not experience time the way we do. He is not hemmed in by clocks, pressured by deadlines, or hurried by the urgency that so often governs us.
We live by calendars and countdowns. We measure progress in hours, days, and months. We feel the delay in very human ways. But God is not late because He is not ruled by time. He is Lord over it. What feels extended to us is not evidence of slowness in Him. What feels delayed to us is not proof of disorder in His plans.
That does not make waiting easy, but it does make it meaningful. It reminds us that our timeline is not the ultimate one. God is doing more than we can see, and He is doing it with a wisdom untouched by panic. He has never once needed to rush to be faithful.
And if He sees time differently, then perhaps part of trust is loosening our grip on the timetable we keep trying to hand Him. Perhaps faith sometimes looks like saying, “Lord, this feels long to me, but I trust that You are not late.”
Father, we confess that we often measure Your faithfulness by our clocks and our expectations. Thank You that You are never rushed, never delayed, and never uncertain in Your ways. Teach us to rest in Your timing and to trust Your wisdom when we cannot trace Your pace. We release our deadlines to You and choose to wait under Your sovereign care.
