Peter retells a story from Israel’s history that underscores the seriousness of sin, not to dwell on destruction, but to reveal the weight of what opposes God’s design.
There are moments in Scripture that remind us that sin is not simply a personal misstep; it has broader consequences. It distorts. It damages. It leads away from life.
Peter not only highlights the Lord’s judgment but is also preparing us to see something else.
With the Lord, where there is destruction, there is also deliverance.
Where there is judgment, there is also rescue.
God’s justice is real, but so is His mercy.
Lord, we confess that we sometimes underestimate the seriousness of sin and its effects. Thank You for Your righteousness that stands firm and Your mercy that rescues. Help us walk in awareness of both. We turn from what leads away from You and seek to live in alignment with Your ways.
