Good Days

1 Peter 3:10–11

Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
1 Peter 3:10–11

We usually define a good day by circumstances.

No stress.
No conflict.
No surprises.

Peter defines a good day by character.

Notice where he starts, the tongue. Most broken relationships begin not with dramatic betrayal but careless words. Sarcasm we justify. Assumptions we repeat. Stories we edit to favor ourselves.

Peace is rarely lost in explosions; it leaks through sentences. Peter says, “Do not just hope for peace; go ‘pursue it.’”

Peace requires activity. Someone apologizes first. Someone clarifies instead of assuming. Someone walks across the room instead of away from it.

Peacemaking always feels unfair in the moment because humility feels like losing. But in the kingdom, the one who lowers himself most looks most like Christ.

A peaceful life is not found by controlling others. It grows from surrendering ourselves.

Father, guard our words today. Keep us from speaking quickly and listening slowly. Give us the courage to make peace even when pride resists it. Help us care more about unity than being proven right.

Pursuing Peace,

eep
