They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!
2 Peter 2:14
The enemy often looks for instability. Peter says these teachers entice the unsteady, the untethered, the immature, the vulnerable. That is one reason false teaching is never merely an intellectual problem. It is a pastoral problem. Real people are affected. Weak people are pulled. Unformed people are harmed.
Our compassion deepens when we understand the enemy’s tactics. Not every person caught in error is rebellious. Some are weary. Some are untaught. Some are hungry for certainty and have attached themselves to the wrong voice.
Which means one of the great callings of Christian maturity is stability, not for our own sake alone, but for the sake of others. We grow roots so that when winds rise, we are not easily carried away. We stay close to the truth so we can help steady others too.
And if we feel unsteady ourselves, that is not the moment for shame. It is the moment to draw near; to the Word, to faithful believers, to the Good Shepherd who does not exploit weak sheep but carries them.
Father, we confess that we are more fragile than we often admit. Thank You that You do not take advantage of weakness but meet us in it with gentleness and truth. Establish us more deeply in Your Word, and make us able to strengthen others with grace. We rest our unstable hearts in Your faithful hands.
