Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
1 Peter 1:18–19
We spend a lot of our lives trying to determine our worth. We measure it in productivity, approval, reputation, success, or comparison. When those measures rise, we feel valuable. When they fall, we feel diminished. Peter cuts through all of that noise with one stunning truth: our worth has already been declared.
God did not redeem us with something expendable. He did not bargain hunt for our souls. He paid with what heaven calls precious, the blood of Christ. Not because we were useful. Not because we were impressive. But because we were loved.
Notice this: the value is not found in us alone, but in what God was willing to give for us. That reframes everything. Our worth is not fragile. It is not seasonal. It is not dependent on our performance this week. It is anchored in the cross.
Peter also reminds us that this redemption was not abstract. It pulled us out of “futile ways” cycles that promise meaning but never deliver it. Christ did not just forgive our past; He rescued our future. He did not just wipe our records; He reclaimed our lives.
When shame whispers that we are disposable, the cross answers otherwise. When fear tells us that we do not matter, the blood of Christ declares that we mattered enough for God to give His very best.
Live today, not trying to earn value, but resting in the value already given.
Father, thank You for showing us our worth through the cross of Christ. When we forget who we are or what we are worth, bring us back to Jesus. Teach us to live from redemption, not for approval.
Living from Redemption,
