Confirmed

2 Peter 1:19

And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts
2 Peter 1:19

Peter has just described one of the most extraordinary moments of his life, the transfiguration of Christ. He saw Jesus’ glory revealed. He heard the voice of the Father from heaven.

And then Peter says something remarkable, “More fully confirmed…”

Peter is not diminishing the experience; he is elevating Scripture. The transfiguration confirmed what God had already spoken through the prophets. The experience did not replace the Word; it validated it.

While experiences are powerful, Scripture is enduring. Experiences may stir the emotions for a moment, but God’s Word steadies the soul for a lifetime. Feelings fluctuate. Circumstances shift. Memories fade. But the Word of God remains firm and reliable through every season.

This is why Peter urges believers to “pay attention” to Scripture.

Not casually.
Not occasionally.
But carefully and continually.

Because God’s Word is a lamp shining in darkness, it gives clarity where confusion exists and stability where uncertainty grows.

And over time, we begin to discover that Scripture does more than inform us; it forms us. It reshapes our thinking, redirects our desires, corrects our wandering, and continually points us back to Christ.

The more we walk with God, the more fully His Word is confirmed in our lives.

Father, we confess how often we look for certainty in experiences rather than in what You have spoken. Thank You for Your Word that remains trustworthy and unchanging. Help us pay careful attention to Scripture and build our lives upon its truth. We surrender unstable foundations and anchor ourselves in You.
