The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
God’s patience has a purpose. It is not merely delay for delay’s sake. It is aimed somewhere. It is reaching toward repentance. That word is not meant to sound harsh or narrow. It is one of the great kindnesses of God. Repentance is not humiliation for its own sake. It is the doorway back to life.
To repent is to turn. To stop defending what is killing us. To stop managing appearances and come honestly into the light. To let go of the lesser path and return to the God who made us for Himself. That is not a loss. That is rescue.
And Peter reminds us that God’s heart is moving in that direction. He is patient because He is still calling people home. He is giving space, time, warnings, and invitations so that hearts might turn while mercy is still being extended.
That means repentance is never merely for the obviously rebellious. It is for all of us, all the time. We are always turning from things like pride, fear, self-sufficiency, dullness, resentment, and turning again toward Christ. Repentance is not the enemy of joy. It is the road into it.
Lord, we confess that we often resist repentance because we fear what it will cost us. Thank You that every call to turn is really an invitation to come home. Give us honest hearts, quick obedience, and a deeper love for the light than for our old hiding places. We turn from our sin and re-place our lives in Your hands, trusting that Your ways lead to life.
