The Battle

1 John 2:13

I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, children, because you know the Father.
1 John 2:13

As we grow in our faith, we discover that belonging to Christ places us in a battle. There is an “evil one,” and he opposes the life God is forming within us.

John declares victory. He tells the “young men…You have overcome.” He does not say we might overcome if we become strong enough. He reminds us that, through Christ, the victory is already ours.

Jesus told John: “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). The empty tomb broke death’s power. The risen Christ secured our future. We are still engaged in the battle, but the outcome is settled.

We still face temptation. We still hear the enemy’s lies. We still experience moments when our courage fades, and our strength feels small. But we do not fight for victory; we fight from victory.

Every temptation resisted, every lie replaced with truth, and every step of obedience reveals Christ’s life at work within us. Our confidence rests not in our resolve but in our Redeemer.

Father, we confess that we often face spiritual battles as though everything depends upon us. Thank You that Jesus has already overcome the world and that His victory has become ours. Give us strength to resist temptation, courage to reject lies, and faith to obey You today. We surrender our battles, our fears, and our weakness to You.

Fighting from Victory,
