Walk the Talk

1 John 1:6

If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
 1 John 1:6

John asks us to examine the difference between what we say and how we live.

We may say we know God. We may know the right words, attend the right church, and believe the right doctrines. But fellowship with God is more than a claim. “Fellowship with Him” produces a changed direction.

John uses the word “walk” to describe the pattern of our lives. A step into darkness does not mean we have abandoned Jesus. Every believer stumbles. John will soon remind us that forgiveness is available when we confess our sins. His concern is not an occasional fall. His concern is that we strive for a consistent walk.

We cannot claim closeness with Jesus while continually choosing what He calls darkness. We cannot embrace sin, defend it, hide it, and still pretend that nothing is wrong. Our words may deceive others. They may even deceive us. But they never deceive God.

Truth is not merely something we believe. It is something we practice. Walking in the light does not mean pretending we have no sin. It means bringing our sin to Jesus. We stop hiding. We stop excusing. We agree with God, receive His grace, and allow Him to redirect our steps.

Jesus does not expose our darkness to shame us. He brings us into the light to free us. His light reveals what is false, heals what is broken, and leads us back into fellowship with Him.

Lord, we admit that our actions do not always match our words. Thank You for loving us enough to expose what we would rather hide. Give us courage to practice the truth and bring every part of our lives into Your light. We surrender our hidden places, our excuses, and our next steps to You.

Consistently in Step with Him,

eep
