That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

The gospel is an invitation before it is an obligation.
John has not written simply to communicate information. His deepest desire is that we would enter into fellowship with God. The word fellowship speaks of sharing life. It is far richer than casual friendship or occasional conversation. It describes belonging, intimacy, participation, and communion.
The God who created the universe does not merely tolerate us. Through Christ, He welcomes us into the eternal fellowship that has always existed between the Father and the Son. We are invited to know Him personally, walk with Him daily, and enjoy His presence continually. Our fellowship with Him also transforms our relationships with one another.
As we draw closer to Christ, we naturally draw closer to His people. Shared interests, personalities, or preferences do not manufacture Christian community. Our shared life in Jesus Christ creates it.
Many of us settle for far less. We pursue connection through activities, accomplishments, or social acceptance while neglecting the very relationship our hearts were created to enjoy. Yet every longing for belonging ultimately finds its fulfillment in Christ.
The invitation still stands today. Not simply to learn about God. But to walk with Him.
Father, we confess that we often search for belonging in places that can never satisfy our deepest longings. Thank You for inviting us into fellowship with You through Jesus Christ. Deepen our relationship with You, strengthen our love for one another, and teach us to enjoy the shared life You have graciously given us. We surrender every lesser pursuit and find our home in You.
