This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,
2 Peter 3:1
Peter returns to something he has done throughout both letters: he reminds, he stirs, he brings the truth back to the surface. And he does so not because his readers are failing, but because he loves them. He is not scolding from a distance. He is shepherding his “beloved” with affection.
Peter’s words are coated with tenderness. We often assume reminders come because we are weak, careless, or behind. But sometimes reminders come because love knows how forgetful we are. Love knows how quickly daily pressures crowd out eternal priorities. Love knows how easy it is for the mind to become cluttered, for the heart to become dull, for the soul to lose its edge.
Peter stirs their “sincere minds.” Not suspicious minds. Not cynical minds. “Sincere minds.” Minds that genuinely want what is true, even if they need help remembering it. Minds that belong to Christ but still need to be woken up from time to time.
We all need correction and encouragement. We need stirring when we are sleepy. We need to remember when we are distracted. We need truth brought near until it warms the heart, steadies the soul, and sharpens life.
Lord, we confess that our minds are often crowded and our hearts too easily dulled by the noise of daily life. Thank You for loving us enough to stir us again with what is true. Awaken our thoughts, clear our vision, and renew in us a sincere desire to hear and follow You. We place our wandering minds before You and ask You to make them steady in Your truth.
