They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!

Peter’s words are strong because he is describing a heart that has become trained in misuse. Eyes are not just seeing; they are craving. Desire is no longer an occasional temptation; it has become a settled pattern, a way of looking at the world and at people.
One of sin’s deepest distortions is that it turns persons into objects, neighbors into opportunities, and gifts into fuel for lust. It teaches the heart to consume rather than cherish.
And this is not only about outward immorality. It speaks to a deeper disorder of desire. Whenever we train ourselves to take rather than serve, to consume rather than honor, to indulge rather than love, we are moving in this same direction.
The gospel reaches into our hearts. Jesus does not merely say, “Stop looking.” He gives a new heart, a new way of seeing, a new kind of desire. He teaches us to see people with dignity, relationships with holiness, and our own bodies with surrender.
Lord, we confess that our desires are often disordered and our eyes are not always pure. Thank You that Your mercy reaches deeper than our failures and Your Spirit can retrain what sin has twisted. Purify our hearts, guard our eyes, and teach us to honor others in thought and deed. We surrender our desires to You and ask You to make them clean.
