If by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard);

Lot’s story is complicated. He lived in a place that pressed against everything God had called him to be. And yet Peter describes him as righteous, not because his life was flawless, but because his heart was aligned with God.
Righteousness is not about perfection; it is about direction. A life that, even when surrounded by brokenness, still turns toward God.
God sees the struggle, the tension, the desire to remain faithful even when the environment makes it difficult.
And He rescues.
Not always immediately. Not always easily. But faithfully.
Lord, we confess how often we feel the tension of living faithfully in a world that pulls in different directions. Thank You that You see our hearts and remain faithful to rescue and sustain. Strengthen us to remain aligned with You. We entrust ourselves to Your care and follow You fully.
