Peter brings us to the formation and foundation of Scripture. Scripture is not the product of human effort; it is the result of divine movement. Written through people but initiated by God.
This is not human initiative reaching upward.
This is divine revelation coming downward.
Men spoke, but God authored.
Voices were human, but the message was divine.
Personalities remained, but the source was unmistakable.
“Carried along…”
Not mechanically controlled.
Not stripped of personality.
Not reduced to passive instruments.
But guided, directed, and borne along by the Spirit with divine purpose and precision. Like a ship moved by the wind: real wood, real sails, real direction; yet ultimately driven by something beyond itself.
And this is why we trust Scripture.
Not because men were flawless, but because God is faithful.
Not because the writers were perfect, but because the Spirit was present.
Not because it reflects human insight, but because it reveals divine truth.
Which means when we open the Word, we are not reading opinions; we are receiving revelation. And that changes how we approach it.
With humility rather than control.
With submission rather than selectivity.
With expectancy rather than indifference.
Because if God has spoken, then our role is not to edit, but to listen. Not to reshape, but to receive. Not to stand over it, but to stand under it.
Father, we confess how often we approach Your Word casually or selectively. Thank You for speaking clearly and faithfully through Your Spirit. Teach us to trust, receive, and submit to what You have revealed. We surrender our preferences and place ourselves under Your authority.
