And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts

Peter describes Scripture as a lamp shining in a dark place.
The darkness is real. Confusion surrounds us. Voices compete for our attention. Questions arise. Temptations persist. Yet in the middle of that darkness, God has not left us without light.
His Word shines.
Not always by revealing everything at once, but by giving enough light for the next faithful step. Scripture does not immediately remove every mystery, but it provides direction for those willing to pay attention.
And Peter says, “You will do well” to remain near that light. Because the alternative is not neutrality, it is wandering.
Every day we are being shaped by something. If we drift from God’s Word, we will eventually drift toward lesser lights that cannot sustain us. But Scripture remains steady because it points us continually to Christ.
Until the day dawns.
Peter reminds us that the lamp is temporary, but necessary. One day Christ will return in fullness. Faith will become sight. The morning star will rise completely, and the darkness will finally give way to eternal light.
But until then, we walk by the lamp.

Lord, we confess how often we try to navigate life apart from Your guidance. Thank You for Your Word that lights our path. Help us remain attentive to it and responsive to Your leading. We surrender our independence and walk in Your light.
