For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
2 Peter 1:5-7
Moral effort without truth eventually drifts. At some point, effort without clarity begins to drift. We mean well, we try hard, we stay disciplined, but without truth anchoring us, we slowly start shaping life around what feels right instead of what is right.
Peter calls us to supplement “virtue with knowledge,” not just information, but discernment rooted in truth. A growing understanding of who God is and how He works.
Paul echoes this in Romans 12:2: “Be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Transformation is not just behavior modification; it is truth reshaping how we think.
Without knowledge, virtue becomes guesswork.
With knowledge, virtue becomes anchored.
We do not grow by trying harder alone. We grow by seeing more clearly.
The more we know Him, the more we recognize what aligns with Him and what does not. What reflects His heart, and what subtly pulls us away.
And slowly, what once required effort begins to feel natural and instinctive. What once felt confusing begins to feel discernible. Because truth has a way of steadying what effort alone cannot.
Lord, we confess how easily we act without seeking Your truth. Thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Word. Renew our minds so our lives reflect what is true. We surrender shallow thinking and pursue deeper understanding in You.
Anchored in Truth,
